This weekend I was so blessed to be able to have my sister swoop in for a quick weekend visit. My sister is my best friend in the universe, we have a long history together! Growing up it wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows. In fact, we often fought and drew blood. We are only 2.5 years apart – a recipe for disaster when you’re younger but the key to friendship when you’re older. Even now we fight but we get it out of the way and move on. I tell her everything and I’m blessed to have her. I have other close friends that are like siblings to me too, what a lucky girl I am.
Josh and I started dating about 8 years ago when my sister lived in NYC. I used to go up for the weekend and visit her, and when Josh and I got more serious he came up too. We even used to bring Bindi, the smaller of our two dogs, with us and go to bars that allowed dogs in! We had some serious fun and visited often. I remember my sister going down to New Orleans for a play in a theater company that friends of hers were involved in, and soon after that we were helping her pack. She was ready to try the theater scene down there, and I was heartbroken to see her go but happy for her. Josh and I rented a mini van and picked her and her cat up. The plan was to drive her down and stay for a little, then fly back up. Our week vacation was super fun and I fell in love the NOLA. Saying goodbye to her in the airport was one of the saddest moments of my life.
Years later, we have made it work really well. I love going to NOLA to visit her and her theater company The Nola Project, and I’m so proud of all she’s accomplished. I just miss her! I hope to one day live close enough to drive to see her again, but right now that’s just a distant dream. Thankfully we see each other again in October for a wedding. It can’t come soon enough!
