Running Favorites

So my buddy Sarah tagged me in her post about running favorites, and honestly I forgot about it for a while!  I don’t have many runner friends with blogs that I can tag, but maybe I’ll work on finding some more blogs that I love and possibly making some friends.

  1. Location:  Trail, Road, or Indoors?

I would say that I love the road, or anything that’s hard and flat.  The boardwalk is another favorite place of mine.  I would say trails, but it really depends on the trail.  I hate to run and watch the ground so intently for holes and such – this is also a reason why I hate to run when there’s a possibility for ice.  Indoor running has become fun to me over time, but I certainly wouldn’t pick it over running outside.

  1. Time of Day:  Morning, Noon, or Evening?

Noon!  I hate to workout in the morning, I don’t feel awake enough.  Unfortunately that’s the time I usually have available.  I actually prefer to workout in the evening, but inside where there are lights.  If I’m going for an outdoor run I like to do it in the daylight.

  1. Weather:  Sunshine, Mild, or Hot?

This girl likes it hot!  I think ideally 70s to low 80s are my perfect range.  I like to sweat.  I would take being too hot any day over too cold.  If it’s really hot I get out late or early and try to run in the shade.  Give me warmth!!

  1. Fuel:  Before, After, and Sometimes during?

I try to fuel a little before, giving myself ideally 2 hours to digest, but often it’s more like 1. My favorite is a banana with some peanut butter and a piece of toast or half a scooped out bagel.  That seems to work pre morning run.  For during a run, if it’s a long one I’ll do some jelly belly extreme beans – watermelon flavor only – or a couple of Haribo gummy bears (my non run favorite treat).  I’m often ravenously hungry after a run.  I love a warm chicken wrap with roasted veggies in it as a post run meal.

  1. Accessories:  Music, Watch, and more?

I just got my first watch – I splurged on the Garmin vivoactive – and I absolutely love it, but if I had to pick, I can’t run by myself without music.   Even when I run with friends, I always feel better that I have my music and I can go to it if I need.

  1. Rewards:  Food or wine or…..?

FOOD.  The day after a long run I want to EAT.  I try not to go too crazy, but it’s fun to eat a little more than usual or something a bit worse and not worry too much.  I can’t wait to train harder and eat more!

  1. Type of run: long, short, tempo, speed work……

I like my short runs, around 6 to 8 miles.  I also am really learning to like speed work, and really enjoying fartleks.  It’s so fun to try the different methods, and not “just run”.
